The Community ConnectionAdults from the community volunteer to come to MLS and eat lunch and spend lunch recess with their Mentee. Comparable to Big Brothers/Big Sisters except they do not have contact outside of school. Students look forward to spending time with their Mentor each week. One year, we all celebrated our time together by taking a field trip to L.L. Bean Order Fulfillment Center. --Amazing! The kids were surprised by the generosity of L.L. Bean who gifted them with personalized lunch boxes, and they got to watch the embroidery machine stitching their initials. Pictured left: Touring L.L. Bean order fulfillment center.

5th Grade Mentors5th grade students earn their position as a Mentor. They complete an application and interview, as though they are applying for a job in the real world. They understand their job as a Mentor is very special. They serve as a positive role model to a 3rd grade student. They spend lunch and recess together once a week.
